2018 Books

I am hoping this post keeps me accountable to read more and be on my phone less. it isn’t always easy because I will admit to sometimes struggling to really get into books, but you have to set goals to strive and be a better person. Here are some books I read (or listend to, because in this season of life that is just how it is) in 2018:

Loving the Little Years –

It took me longer to get through this book than I figured it would, I am not sure why, I just didn’t get in to it like I figured I would. Maybe I really need to be in the thick of it to need this book for reassurance. But it is a short read

Magic of Motherhood – Ashlee Gadd – Coffee + Crumbs

I have followed coffee and crumbs for a few months and LOVED their podcast so I asked for the book they wrote for Christmas. I love the book and the different stories, I think the only bummer to me was a lot of them I had already read on the blog so they weren’t new to me but anyone that doesn’t follow their blog I think would really enjoy it! They show the real, not always so pleasant side of motherhood.

Famous in Heaven & at Home – Michelle Myers

I didn’t know this was a devotional when I asked for it for Christmas but this has honestly been a life changing devotional. It is about striving towards being a Proverbs 31 woman on how I treat my husband and take care of my family. I just loved the commentary on the passage too and all the practical points they brought up. So much truth and I would recommend this devotional to everyone!! I loved diving into Proverbs 31 too because I had never done a study on the this chapter of the Bible but it is such an important one for women. I plan to read this one over and over again!

Treasuring Christ When Your Hands are Full – Gloria Furman

This was the second book I listened to of Gloria’s and I felt like I understood the way she writes and absolutely loved this book. it was exactly what I needed to hear and so often not what you hear about motherhood these days. it was all about the beauty and servanthood of motherhood and not the all too often heard ” I’m an overwhelmed mom who needs me time” and I found it so encouraging and I am sure I will listen to the book again when I need encouragement down the road and my hands are even more full.

Simplified Life – Emily Ley

I loved this book and found it so intriguing but not shoving the advice and demands down my throat. she isn’t trying to make you a minimalist, but aims at trying to open your eyes to ways to make your life easier and less about the stuff that doesn’t matter and more about the things that do while still taking care of yourself and enjoying your life. I have this one on my kindle and think I will read through it again every spring as a touch up when doing spring cleaning 🙂

Cold Tangerines – Shauna Niequist

I loved this book too. it was kind of one that was all over the place and wasn’t sure if I would like it or not because I wasn’t the biggest fan of her popular book Present over Perfect, but I ended up really enjoying it and got a lot read while I was on vacation so that is nice to get the time to dedicate to the book!

Life Giving Home – Sally Clarkson

I loved how this book was set up by the months and the things a family commonly does each one. There was so many great ideas, but I did find this book a tad slow at times. I started reading it when very pregnant and then with a newborn so it got dragged out more than I would have liked so maybe that has something to do with it

Black High Heels and Tractor Wheels – Ree Drummond

I got back on the audio book train over maternity leave and this was an all time favorite. It was so nice to listen to a love story book and not a self help book. Ree is absolutely hilarious and i just loved this book so much and always looked forward to drives so I could listen!

Girl, Wash Your Face – Rachel Hollis

I really did enjoy this book. I went in to it after reading an article of beware and how this book made life a little too much about ourselves and I think that was good for me to read. She pounds home how important we are and she is right! But it is even more important to remember that it isn’t about us. It’s all about God and his plan for our life. Still this book gave me so many great ideas, things to ponder, and it was encouraging.

Magnolia Story – Chip & Joanna Gaines

I’ve always loved them, their show, style, everything….BUT now getting to know their life story makes it just that much sweeter. Like it was just exactly what I needed to know that life isn’t always a perfect easy story to success and just love how they gave all the glory to God. So encourage and just enjoyed listening to this book so much

Stretched too Thin – Jessica Turner

I came across this book after she was on many podcasts that I listen to and instagrams I followed mentioned it. This was such a great listen and just what I needed returning to work.

Fringe Hours – Jessica Turner

This was Jessica Turners first book and so I had to listen to it after enjoying Stretched too Thin so much. A lot of it was repeat of Stretched too Thin but still SO good and a great reminder! She just seems like me and how she wants to do ALL the things and how she is able to handle life with that kind of drive.

I am hoping to read/listen to 15 books in 2019. Hopefully this will keep me accountable
